Six years ago exactly...
Agi and I were married exactly six years ago on a Saturday here in Hungary. It's easy to keep track because we got married 11 days after the Sept 11th attacks... In fact, the wedding almost had to be canceled because I was stuck in the US (Agi flew back to Hungary on Sept 10 to prepare) and it wasn't clear when flights would resume for me to get out there. I remember sitting in SFO getting ready to board and seeing the front of a huge 747 and viewing it as a huge missile...
Anyway, I'm thankful for this jewel of a woman who is my wife. Bring on decades more!
One other memory I could record here is about our honeymoon and a "cool coincidence." Since we were in Europe for the wedding, we had to go someplace exotic and romantic for the honeymoon so we went to Venice (it is gorgeous there in September). One of the nights we were there Agi had a bad headache--she often gets migraine headaches-- and her dad (a doctor) had given her some more powerful headache medicine to try out. We sat down in Venice at an outdoor pizza place and were talking a bit with a nice middle-aged American couple who sat next to us. As we were deciding whether to buy some wine with dinner, I asked the American couple whether they thought it would be OK if she had wine after taking some powerful headache medicine. The guy smiled and said, "that's funny you asked. I'm actually a doctor specializing in treating migraine headaches. Do you mind if I feel your head?" So he reached over and felt Agi's temples and skull a bit. "Definitely lots of pressure. But don't worry about having wine with your medication" (after we told him what it was). Their pizza was great too.
Today we went on a hike in the woods behind our house and for dessert we're heading into downtown Budapest to celebrate our anniversary with some dessert at a place we spotted recently: "White Heaven." Oh la la. Check it out. http://www.whitecafe.hu/
